Gelsenkirchen silhouette: Where coal became culture

The Gelsenkirchen skyline traces the transformation of this Ruhr city, where mining heritage, contemporary architecture and major sporting landmarks form part of a shared identity. The composition takes inspiration from a 360° panorama from the Hamburg-Mannheimer building, around Machensplatz, starting towards the west-northwest and gradually turning through northwest, north and northeast towards southeast/south-southeast. The design combines different perspectives to bring together the city's most representative landmarks.

The journey begins with the Nordsternturm, crowned by the Herkules sculpture, followed by the Renaissance Schloss Horst and the Hans-Sachs-Haus. Next comes the Veltins-Arena, a symbol of the city's footballing tradition, alongside the Rathaus Buer, recognisable by its tower.

The silhouette continues with the Musiktheater im Revier, a notable example of post-war cultural architecture, and the Evangelische Altstadtkirche. Further along rises the mining structure of Zeche Consolidation, Schacht 9, followed by the church of St. Augustinus.

Towards the end, the Halde Rheinelbe and its iconic Himmelstreppe recall the transformation of former industrial sites into cultural landscapes. The Fernmeldeturm closes the horizon, completing a composition that celebrates Gelsenkirchen's mining heritage, passion for sport and capacity for reinvention.

To ensure secure attachment, apply double-sided adhesive strips to the back of the skyline evenly, using a minimum of three to four attachment points.

Carefully wipe the surface where you wish to attach the skyline with a dry, dust-free cloth to ensure that the surface is free of grease and dirt.

Remove the protection from the back of the adhesive points and gently press the skyline against the desired surface to secure it in place.

Verify that the skyline is securely attached and is level before releasing it. Adjust if necessary.

How can they be attached to the wall?

In the product we include an envelope with padded double-sided adhesives to fix on the wall. They are transparent dots that must be peeled off and placed on the back of the piece distributing them evenly and in the thickest parts of the skyline, then remove the protection on the other side and fix on the wall.

Can it be hung on stippled or plastered walls?

There would be no problem to fix the skylines on a stippled wall as the double-sided adhesive tape we include is padded and very resistant. In addition, the skylines are not too heavy. However, you have to consider the roughness and type of stippling on your wall. We do not recommend it for brick or plastered walls. The ideal is to place it on a smooth wall, because it adheres better.

Is it possible to make this model in custom size or larger?

At the moment it is not possible, as we must take into account the logistical limitations of packages larger than 100 cm.
